WhatsApp cart recovery for WooCommerce at the Elephant Sanctuary

Custom WooCommerce plugin creation that automatically recovers abandoned carts via WhatsApp using the Evolution API.

Cart abandonment at the Elephant Sanctuary had an uncomfortable detail: many orders were almost finished. The person selected a product, moved into checkout, and stopped at account, login, or payment. In a WooCommerce store, recovering that contact quickly is not as simple as it is in Shopify. The plugins we tested were too generic for the flow the operation needed.

I built WhatsApp Cart Recovery PRO to capture the customer's WhatsApp number in the first checkout step. If the purchase is not completed, the plugin keeps the cart saved and triggers the Evolution API. The customer receives a message with a direct link to continue the order without browsing again or finding the product from scratch.

Choosing WhatsApp was practical. The channel already matched Brazilian customer behavior and usually gets a faster response than email for this kind of reminder. It also avoided putting a heavy automation layer inside WordPress, which still needed to stay light.

When we measured abandoned carts, we found a financial volume equivalent to the store's realized revenue. It was 100% hidden revenue sitting in the middle of checkout. The automation does not recover everything, but it started attacking the exact point where the sale was being lost.
