Integrating CRM and product data to scale lead nurturing at Azion
Discover how integrating HubSpot, lead scoring, and platform usage data allowed nurturing technical leads and accelerating conversions at Azion.
Generating qualified demand and structuring server-side tracking are vital steps, but they do not end the job. In my scope of work with Azion, the third major pillar to consolidate the acquisition machine was structuring what happens after the lead enters the database. We needed a system that nurtured these developers and executives in a hyper-personalized way, respecting their awareness levels. To achieve this, integrating CRM and product data became our main sales lever.
We chose HubSpot as the engine of this operation. The strategy was to place all generated leads — both PQLs (Product Qualified Leads) and MQLs — into a dynamic funnel focused on increasing awareness levels. Working side-by-side with PMMs (Product Marketing Managers), we ensured the content was not generic. They created materials and narratives specific to each user stage and event. If a developer got stuck at the "deploy_edge_functions" stage, they received content focused exactly on solving that bottleneck.
Lead Scoring driven by actual usage
The orchestration of these communication rules was handled by MDRs (Market Development Representatives). The magic of integrating CRM and product data happened in point attribution (Lead Scoring). We didn't measure engagement just by email opens. We crossed content consumption (email reads, blog article access, whitepaper downloads) with the developer's actual usage inside the Edge Computing platform.
As the lead progressed through HubSpot sequences and simultaneously executed high-value actions on the platform, their score went up. This gave us an incredible ability to measure the efficiency of the nurturing cadences. If we sent an email with a new tutorial and noticed a spike in platform activations right after, we knew the content had converted. If a lead hit a very high score, an SDR was automatically triggered for a direct approach (hand-raising). After this initial screening, the lead was passed to an Account Executive to facilitate the upgrade (subscription).
Integrating CRM and product data eliminated friction between marketing and sales. The commercial operation stopped calling cold leads and started acting as technical consultants focused on accounts that already showed, through data, they were ready to scale their usage. This is how you build predictability in complex B2B sales.
