SEO and GEO

Does structured data help in GEO? What really matters

Structured data helps engines interpret entities and can make pages eligible for enriched results, but it is not an entry ticket for AI responses. At Google, there is no special schema for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Visible content, indexing, and page quality remain the foundation.

What does markup do

Schema.org allows you to declare that a block represents an organization, product, article, author, offer, or FAQ. This reduces ambiguity and facilitates automatic validation. For e-commerce, price, availability, identifiers and reviews need to accurately reflect the page.

Google recommends that structured data matches visible content and follows the guidelines for the type adopted. Hidden, outdated or misleading branding can lose eligibility and undermine trust.

What markup doesn't do

It doesn't create authority, it doesn't fix a blocked page, and it doesn't make a statement true. It also does not force an engine to quote the URL. The Official Generative Search Optimization Guide states that structured data is not required for generative features and that there is no special markup to add.

Where to prioritize

Use supported types that represent real facts: Organization, Product, Article, BreadcrumbList, LocalBusiness or others suitable. Keep name, URL, logo, author, dates, price and inventory consistent across HTML, JSON-LD, feeds and profiles. Validate with official tools and monitor errors in Search Console.

Entity requires more than schema

A company is understood as a set: institutional page, products, authors, contacts, policies, content, external sources and history. JSON-LD reinforces this identity; he doesn't invent it.

Success criteria

Measure fixed errors, eligible rich results, catalog consistency, and visibility changes. Do not assign a new citation to the markup without tracking other changes. For a complete audit, combine structured data with content, indexing and authority.

The short answer is: structured data helps organize information, but GEO cannot be solved with schema. Prioritize clear facts, useful content, technical access and evidence.
